Baptiste Stanek
Jure Slapar is a 23-year-old Slovenian guitar player, composer and improviser, who has been active on the European Jazz scene both as a band leader and as a sideman.
He began his musical journey at the age of 8 with classical guitar. After 7 years of classical training, Jure developed a deep interest for jazz and improvisation so he continued his high school studies at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Besides his regular studies he had the opportunity to be mentored at multiple masterclasses by world-class musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Shai Maestro, Gregory Hutchingson, Joe Sanders, Lage Lund, Peter Evans, Charles Altura and Mike Moreno.
Jure then pursued his studies at the Jazz Campus Basel, studying with Lionel Loueke and Wolfgang Muthspiel and at the Jazz Institute Berlin, studying besides others with Paulo Morello, David Friedman, Greg Cohen, where he recently completed his bachelor's studies.
As a versatile guitar player and composer, Jure is active in the jazz, as well as beat, and fusion-oriented scenes. He is a two-time Gold Plaque and first prize winner of the competition for young musicians TEMSIG, and has had the opportunity to perform twice with the national radio Big Band RTV Slovenia as a soloist.
