Yumi Ito
Yumi Ito is a Swiss musician and composer with japanese and polish roots. Growing up in a musical family she soon discovered the piano and gave her debut with the Z?rich Chamber Orchestra at the ?Tonhalle? in Zurich at the age of 8. From 2012?2017 she studied Jazz Vocals at the Zurcher Hochschule der Kunste and Jazzcampus Basel.
Her teachers were Lisette Spinnler, Chris Wiesendanger, Marianne Racine, Theo Bleckmann, Jorge Rossy and Mark Turner. She recorded her debut album in 2014 together with Yves Theiler, Gabriel Dalvit and Yuri Goloubev in London. At the Generations Festival masterclasses in Frauenfeld she got selected into the „Generations Unit 2017“ band and toured with the DKSJ Allstar band featuring Arthur Hnatek. In 2017 she released her second album with Yves Theiler at Off Beat Festival Basel and currently tours with her 11-musicians band „Yumi Ito Orchestra". Yumi has been invited to perform in the Montreux Jazz Festival, Cully Jazz Festival, Off Beat Festival Basel, Jazztage Chur and Klang Basel Festival with musicians such as Guillermo Klein Ensemble, Yaron Herman (Montreux Jazz Academy) and her own projects as a leader.
